Bob started playing guitar in 1965 at the age of eight. His first guitar was a used Sears Guitar (probably the one once owned by David.) He played in many no-name garage bands through grade school while learning his chops. In high school, Bob played in a band named Substance Of The Unknown which was later shortened to Substance.
At the age of seventeen he joined the United States Marine Corps and spent six years serving his country. There wasn’t much time for music in the military — except for an occasional campfire tune. After Bob’s tour of duty, he became a session guitarist for anyone who would let him play. He would fill in whenever an extra guitarist was needed or whenever someone was absent from a gig.
Even though he spent a large portion of the past decade playing playing in a band (OPEN WIDE) whose focus was mostly Classic Rock, it should be noted that Bob’s influences are more in the Blues vein. They include the likes of Jimmi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton,Wes Montgomery, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, Robben Ford, Roy Buchanan, Robin Trower and Carlos Santana.
Now that he and three other former members of OPEN WIDE have combined to form SWAGGER BACK, he will once again get a chance to combine his love for the blues with the ever popular classic rock.
